A precaution to take before anything else is to just right-click on the executable file, select properties, go to the compatibility tab, just to be safe click the 'change settings for all users' and then tick the box for 'Run this program as an administrator' and of course apply/ok for it to set. And most importantly because there´s less compatibility issues and the formatting of the codes is kept clean, easy to read and logical.It´s not mandatory, but I recommend a text-editing tool a bit better than the default.So a link to that incase you don´t have it. A reminder you can edit the XML files with your basic default notepad or word.Personally, I´ve been using the free Notepad, because it allows easy switching in tabs instead of windows, multiple files opened up at the same time (which helps when you´re comparing back and forth changes, such as comparing differences in gradients between harder and easier difficulties).
Unfortunately not all of them have any impact, for example editing the alienattackdata.txt file will not change anything in-game.
