More often than not you'd notice that specific AI civs would like you depending on your actions, but if you start doing the one thing they don't like they'll denounce you, but directly after try to bargain with you for open borders or something like that. I've also never experienced an AI in Civ V that has ever razed a city, meaning civilizations would just put their economies and science down the drain because warmongering etc. For instance, I've had multiple games where, when at war, France would simply just city-spam and cause a bunch of clutter and unhappiness to civs that would try and capture them. In Civ V, the AI for each civ is really programmed to achieve one of a couple things.

The AI in VI and V are both pretty garbage, though, so if you're really looking for a better AI experience, then you should roll with Civ VI and some mods that make them less atrocious.ĮDIT: I suppose I should also mention why they're both garbage.

Civ V's multiplayer likes to have many inconsistencies with how it deals with clientside processes such as alt-tabbing, and, while this may not apply to you directly as you mention you're playing with a buddy, Civ V's multiplayer likes to just plain barely work when dealing with games of more than 6 people.Ĭiv VI's multiplayer experience is better in terms of modding as well, it allows you to use mods without having to go and use a separate executable program to make it easier on yourself.

If you want just a better multiplayer experience out of the box, though, Civ VI is better. If you're looking for AI experience in terms of Civ multiplayer, you're not going to get very much out of either game, especially not Civ VI.
